The Dallas Cowboys took on the Seattle Seahawks in the team's second preseason game ahead of the regular season. There were some key things to take away from the action.

One of the more interesting storyline is how the running back positional battle just became even more interesting. Because rookie Deuce Vaughn continues to put on a show leading up to week one.

The undersized Vaughn fell to day three of the 2023 NFL Draft despite emerging as a college football star while at Kansas State. Against the Seahawks, the elusive Vaughn found the end zone on a highlight reel play that has everybody buzzing.

Vaughn broke a tackle and eluded defenders en route to scoring for the Dallas Cowboys. It was a glimpse into what he can do when the ball is in his hands. Whic is nothing new for the Kansas State product.

With Ezekiel Elliott now officially off to the New England Patriots, the door is now open for a second running back to emerge into the team's rotation behind Tony Pollard. Right now, Vaughn looks to have the most juice.

But it's not just Vaughn that has had strong moments. Rico Dowdle has also been making his case to be RB2 on the depth chart. Dowdle rushed for 38 yards on eight carries, an average good for nearly five yards per rush.

He played a key role in the team's opening touchdown drive. Dowdle recorded 10 rushing yards and showed off some impressive pass protection skills en route to hauling in a scoring reception.

It remains to be seen what the Dallas Cowboys do in terms of difficult decisions that must be made up and down the roster. But the battle for backup running back is certainly intriguing.
