The Dallas Cowboys simply can't catch a break when it comes to the health of their team.

The team had already dealt with multiple injuries during the preseason and suffered multiple more Sunday night against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

All injuries suck. But there's zero doubt the worst of them all was Dak Prescott's hand injury that is going to cause him to miss the next 6-8 weeks of the season. Prescott injured said hand in the second half against the Buccaneers and will have to undergo surgery.

Now, the Cowboys are left with backup quarterback Cooper Rush. Granted, Rush helped orchestrate last year's Week 8 win over the Minnesota Vikings, but he's obviously nowhere near the quarterback that Prescott is. The Cowboys offense is guaranteed to take a step back with him as signal-caller.

And to make matters worse, the Cowboys don't have another quarterback on the roster. They have Will Grier on the practice squad, but he couldn't beat out Rush for the backup job, and that's it.

The question, here, is whether or not the Cowboys think they can stay in the playoff hunt while Prescott is out. Or, at least win enough games to where they give themselves a realistic shot at making a run when he returns.

Based off Sunday night, that doesn't look like the road ahead for the Cowboys. The offense was abysmal, even with Prescott on the field, and completely wasted a solid defensive effort that held the Buccaneers offense to 19 points.

Sunday night's lack of results and the Cowboys' lack of quarterback options has prompted FOX Sports host Nick Wright to conclude Dallas will pull off a huge trade for Jimmy Garoppolo in order to put a band-aid over the Prescott situation.

There is no way this trade happens under this scenario

The Cowboys do need to look into making a move. And they should at least try to look into Garoppolo.

But there's no way this trade will happen. There's also a good chance the San Francisco 49ers won't even take the Cowboys' call. Hence, the earlier "try to look into" phrasing.

For starters, everyone keeps forgetting there is a no-trade clause involved with Garoppolo's contract. Would he even want to go to Dallas?

Secondly, the Cowboys are an NFC team. Trading star players -especially quarterbacks -within the conference typically doesn't happen.

And if the 49ers did in fact decide to trade within the conference, they are going to make sure it's worth it. Meaning, a mid-round pick isn't going to cut it. Especially if the Cowboys are as "desperate" as Wright puts it. The 9ers know they could get more and the 'Boys would overpay.

It makes zero sense for the Cowboys to pay a high price (like a second or third-rounder, which is what it likely cost) for a quarterback to come in for two months and hold down the fort. Garoppolo would have to learn the system, which would make the first couple of weeks rocky, themselves.

There are just too many moving parts and the Cowboys defense may just be good enough to keep the team in games over the next couple of months. If Prescott is back by Week 10, which is a tick over eight weeks away, then the Cowboys defense has Giants, Commanders, Rams, and Bears offenses to face off against. That's four of the next seven opponents, which gives the Cowboys a shot to win at least a few games with Rush at quarterback.

Wright might believe the Cowboys are desperate, but there are reasons why they shouldn't be. So it's safe to say don't hold your breath regarding a Jimmy G and The Star hookup.
