The Dallas Cowboys are set to kickoff preseason football action this weekend against the Jacksonville Jaguars inside AT&T Stadium. While quarterback Dak Prescott won't be suiting up, there's still more than enough intrigue when the games kick off.

One of the more compelling storylines for the preseason is the emergence of the wide receiver position. Dallas has done an excellent job of reshaping the pass catches for Prescott to get the ball to after a less than ideal corps in 2022.

Dallas traded for Pro Bowl receiver Brandin Cooks this offseason, immediately providing a boost out wide. But training camp has also given others the platform to step up and showcase what they can do, too.

Which provides more optimism for the upcoming season. Electric kick returner Kavontae Turpin figures to have a larger role in the offense. Michael Gallup is another offseason removed from his season-ending injury in 2021.

Second-year wideout Jalen Tolbert has also shown signs of improvement to this point. Tolbert had a forgettable rookie season, hardly seeing the field when Dallas desperately needed weapons to step up in the passing game.

Fortunately, Tolbert appears to be turning the corner. He has shined in some practices out in Oxnard and is showcasing some ability to be a trusted target for Prescott. Which would obviously elevate the offense to another level.

Beyond Tolbert, rookie Jalen Brooks is having a strong camp and making a real push to potentially make the roster. Brooks has made difficult contested catches and has been a valuable addition to the special teams in practices.

Therefore, the preseason sets the stage for the wide receivers to show out and prove that they can carve out a role in the offense when the regular season arrives. A trio of Lamb, Cooks and Gallup, combined with some promising depth, points to an improvement in 2023 for the Cowboys.
