We've officially ran out of ways to describe how electrifying Micah Parsons was in 2021.
The Dallas Cowboys got themselves an off-ball linebacker and an edge rusher in the same player. But it was bigger than that. Parsons was the most fun player to watch on the field when he was out there.
But even after getting five votes for Defensive Player of the Year, there is room for improvement. Head Coach Mike McCarthy knows this very well.
Via The Athletic's Jon Machota, McCarthy discussed the second-year jump Parsons could see in 2022. To him, it goes well beyond stats. For Parsons to be considered elite, getting more tackles for loss, hurries, and sacks is only half of the equation.
“Obviously, Micah had a lot of great moments last year. But our desire, and it needs to be his desire, is for him to be an elite player, not just a great player. The elite ones bring everybody with them. How they work, how they compete in practice, how they compete in the weight room, how they compete at garbage can basketball in the locker room."
When he arrived to the Dallas Cowboys, Parsons was not shy as a rookie. His attitude quickly earned the respect of players around him and when he talked to the media, he frequently mentioned his desire to be a true great.
Now, he will be seen by many as one of the best players on the roster. As such, it will be his job to push the others around him. McCarthy added:
“That’s all part of culture growth and establishing that. He has an opportunity to really make a huge impact on our football team.”
Micah has had the perfect opportunity to display that after the Cowboys picked Sam Williams in the second round of the NFL Draft. The Defensive Rookie of the Year has been working with Williams this offseason, offering him insightful advice to win versus NFL talent consistently.
