DALLAS – The Cowboys have made a roster move.
Fullback Sewo Olonilua, who has been with the Cowboys since the 2020 season, was released on Wednesday.
Olonilua played his college ball at TCU. In a reserve role, Olonilua racked up 1,624 yards and 18 touchdowns on 4.7 yards per attempt during his four years with the Horned Frogs. He was signed as an undrafted free agent but could never get his career in Dallas up and running.
Olonilua was released just before the start of the 2020 season but was re-signed to the practice squad a day later where he spent most of the season. He was elevated to the active roster once in November and twice in December but played only on special teams.
The 2021 season ended for Olonilua before it even started. In the Hall of Fame game last August against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Olonilua suffered a neck injury that landed him on the season-ending injured reserve list.
The Cowboys will now rely on Nick Ralston to take over fullback duties. He was signed as an undrafted free agent last season. Ralston was waived and re-signed to the practice squad last August. He made one appearance on the active roster in October before he was waived and re-signed to the practice squad again. In January, he was signed to a reserve/future contract.
Olonilua didn't log a single offensive snap during his time in Dallas. He looks to restart his NFL career elsewhere as his time with the Cowboys has ended.
The move was necessary since Dallas was over the NFL's 90-man roster limit. They now have 91 rostered players after releasing Olonilua.
