While the Dallas Cowboys were not able to upgrade at wide receiver during a hectic NFL trade deadline, they're not done looking for one just yet.

Reportedly, the Cowboys were interested in Texans WR Brandin Cooks but were deterred by a hefty cap hit in 2023 and the compensation Houston's front office sought. The team also inquired about the Denver Broncos' Jerry Jeudy.

That meant a wide receiver group that could very well use some speed and experience will be left hoping James Washington's return from injury is enough to improve.

That is until December, at least.

Because according to Sunday's report from NFL Network, the Cowboys are expected to be serious contenders for Odell Beckham Jr. once the star wide receiver is healthy.

Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo from NFL Network report:

"Odell Beckham Jr., the top free agent available, is firmly on the Cowboys' radar, sources say, and they are expected to be in the mix when he's ready to pick his team upon full recovery from an ACL tear."

Beckham Jr. would be a game changer for this offense. Although he hasn't stuck around a team for a long period of time, his impact can't be denied.

He was a huge reason why the Los Angeles Rams made the Super Bowl last year, catching five touchdowns in eight regular season games.

In the playoffs, OBJ would went on a monster run averaging 72 yards per game and scoring two touchdowns before going down injured in the Super Bowl.

More than anything, his ability to make plays in all situations was made evident once again. He's a versatile player who can help any offense beat man and zone coverage and that can be dangerous after the catch.

Not to mention the obvious, but CeeDee Lamb, Michael Gallup, and Odell Beckham Jr. would make for one of the best WR trios in the league if the latter is fully healthy.

The Cowboys have to be ready to enter a contested auction though, as multiple playoff teams will be in the mix. Over in the AFC, the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs are expected to lead the OBJ free agency battle royale.

But you can never rule out the Green Bay Packers, New York Giants, Rams, or any team with aspirations to succeed in the playoffs.
