Okay, let's admit three things here about the 2022 Dallas Cowboys.
- Having a healthy Odell Beckham Jr. on the team would be awesome and could help take the offense to another level.
- He might not be healthy though.
- This story has gone from exciting to boring to thrilling to incredibly frustrating over the last few days. We just want to know what's going to end up happening.
The latest report – this one by ESPN's Ed Werder – indicates the Cowboys don't feel confident in OBJ's prospects of playing even in mid-January!
That means that Jerry Jones and the Cowboys front office would essentially have to be confident enough in what the star wide receiver could bring to the table beyond this season as the possibility of him making an impact now seems dubious.
Considering Beckham Jr. hasn't worked out in any of his visits makes the thing even weirder.
Beckham Jr.'s visit to Dallas has been the loudest out of his tour around the NFL which has included the Buffalo Bills and the New York Giants. During his short time in town, OBJ has heard his name chanted by fans in a Mavs game, has met Mark Cuban, and has been treated like the top college football recruit in the country. Only it's the billionaire version of it.
Would the Cowboys still be interested in the wide receiver even if he doesn't help them get to where they want to go this season?
"As I’ve heard in the reporting, this isn’t about a this-year type of thing, this is also a long-term deal," Dak Prescott told reporters following Sunday's win. "Obviously, he can help us
right now but he’s going to help us in the future just as much."
There's also the question of whether or not this is some public negotiation tactic by Jerry Jones and co. to drive OBJ's value down.
Only time will tell. Right now, I think Cowboys Nation is getting a little bit sick of the entire conversation. Sign him or don't and let's focus on this great team that's 9-3.
