The Dallas Cowboys have been very busy over the last few days. Since the free agency window started last week, the team has re-signed multiple key players like Donovan Wilson and Leighton Vander Esch.

They've also landed a couple of big-name players in Stephon Gilmore and Brandin Cooks. That's left many wondering, are the Cowboys out of salary cap space? Are there even more signings on the horizon?

Well, that's the good news. Even after a very strong and busy start to the offseason, the Cowboys have a lot of salary cap space to work with. Let's dive in.

Updated Salary Cap Space

According to Over the Cap, the Cowboys have $16.2 million in salary cap space as of this writing. Although things can change quickly at this time of the year, that number is the 11th highest in the NFL right now.

And there's more coming their way. That number doesn't reflect an additional $10.9 million that Ezekiel Elliott's release will open in June. Since the running back was a designated post-June 1st cut, the cap savings won't be reflected until then.

Although that cap space can't be used now, it matters because the team can use it for extensions and draftee signings later in the year.

In terms of "effective cap space," Over the Cap estimates the Cowboys have $13.4 million. That number reflects the "cap space a team will have after signing at least 51 players and its projected rookie class to its roster."

Does this mean the Cowboys will add more big-time free agents?

It's possible but not necessarily so.

The team could also be getting ready to fill some holes with a few low-key signings across the roster. The Cowboys have also aimed to carry over cap space from year to year (any unused cap space can be carried over to the following season).

Chances are they've made their big moves by now and will focus on some housekeeping items now. Contract extensions for Dak Prescott, Trevon Diggs, and CeeDee Lamb could all be in play here, too.

The team can take a variety of paths moving forward but it's definitely nice to know that cap space isn't likely to be an issue. The team has plenty of it as of right now.
