Sam Williams has already shown flashes of why the Dallas Cowboys took him in the second round. The rookie has logged 20 tackles (eight tackles for loss) three sacks, seven quarterback hits, nine hurries, 18 pressures, three fumble recoveries, and a forced fumble as a rotational piece.

The second-round pick almost had his rookie campaign, and life, come to an end recently. Williams was involved in a car accident last week, totaling his vehicle. Lucky to be alive, was appreciative afterward for it not being a catastrophic situation.

“My first thing was like, ‘Thank you, God,'” Williams said on Monday. “Because it could’ve been worse. I was thinking about my son- a lot- and his mom. I could’ve been gone that fast, without seeing them, saying goodbye, anything. And I was going home to them, think I was five or six minutes from my house.”

Williams was driving his new Chevrolet Corvette last Thursday after picking up the vehicle from a dealership in Euless, Texas the day before, a city around 20-25 minutes from Dallas. After the crash took place, witnesses, along with Williams, tried to get the other person involved in the accident out of her car but they were unsuccessful due to the door being jammed.

Both Williams and the other driver were taken to the hospital. None of the injuries were too serious but Williams suffered bruises on his face from the car's airbag and a concussion which forced him to miss the Cowboys' win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Christmas Eve.

Willaims went into more detail about his close call.

“I was driving straight. “All I remember is that previous car went by really fast without yielding," Williams said. "And then I was driving straight, I guess another car went, and I looked over, and I was getting hit from the side, the driver’s side. And I just held on real tight to the steering wheel and tried to brace myself. And then it stopped, and all I was hearing was, ‘Get out the car, it’s smoking.’"

At this point, Willaims had to be in shock over such a near-death experience, and so were the onlookers that witnessed it.

"Once I got out, everybody had their phones out and was like, ‘There’s no way you lived through that. There is no way you lived through that'" said Williams.

Williams is recognized for his phenomenal football talent and rightfully so. However, what he experienced here has nothing with the gridiron, it was a life lesson.

So many times in these scenarios, the results are fatal, and all parties involved become the sad topic of a social media post. The former Ole Miss Rebel didn't just walk away after almost meeting the grim reaper, he left the scene with a great perspective on what's most important.

"I look back over it and I'm just thankful for life," said Williams. "And Christmas was near and the biggest gift we have is life. You never know so I encourage everyone to hug your love ones. Any dispute with family members, anything, just end it because you never know when that day is, and me going through that, I called my mama and family members, everybody to check on them."

Everyone should take heed to the words of Williams during this holiday season and going forward.
