One of the most promising defenders on the Dallas Cowboys is dealing with a setback at the moment.
Former second-round pick, edge rusher Sam Williams, suffered a shoulder strain in the Cowboys' first padded practice of training camp on Monday.
Williams had to scratch and claw for snaps in 2022 but he appeared in 15 games and was very productive with 22 tackles, four sacks, nine quarterback hits, three fumble recoveries, a forced fumble, and a pass defended.
The hope is that Williams takes that next step in Year 2 to join All-Pro Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence at the top of the Cowboys edge rusher group. For now, it's the waiting game to determine how long Williams will be out.
