How will QB Will Grier do?
Head coach Mike McCarthy indicated Grier is set to receive a "super long" look on Saturday night. Considering he played 76% of the snaps in the preseason opener, that could very well mean Grier could be looking at a full game.
Will he be able to show the coaching staff more consistency than last week? It's clear Grier has a talented arm and is certainly a better athlete than Cooper Rush. But his occasional misfires are likely a concern. Grier will fight for a spot on the practice squad or even on the 53-man roster.
What's Deuce Vaughn's place in the RB rotation?
Following an electric performance in the preseason opener, Vaughn has been getting "extra reps" with the starters in practice. Entering week 2 of the preseason, seeing where Vaughn stands in the rotation will be very revealing of just how much his stock has risen.
Versus the Jaguars, Vaughn entered the game as RB4, getting his first reps until late in the second half. I'd expect him to play much earlier this weekend.
3 Players to watch
- EDGE Isaiah Land: The undrafted free agent led the Cowboys in pressures and pressure rate last weekend. Land has a legit shot at the 53-man roster if he keeps up the good work.
- TE John Stephens: Another UDFA! A former WR, Stephens led the team in receiving yards and catches versus the Jags. He provides unique size and hands and could take somebody's job. Jake Ferguson hyped him up following last week's game with a warning to his teammates.
- DT Mazi Smith: The first-round rookie showed off his power last week but did have some bad moments where he was caught off guard by multiple double teams. Overall, his outing was positive and I want to see the jump he takes after his first-ever pro game.
