If anyone thinks the Dallas Cowboys are done looking at the running back position they're sadly mistaken.
Yes, they inked veteran Ronald Jones to a one-year deal and re-signed Rico Dowdle, but that's not enough to feel comfortable with what's behind Tony Pollard.
According to Ryan Fowler of The Draft Network, the Cowboys will hold a private workout with Tulane running Tyjae Spears on Tuesday.
Spears played sparingly in his first year with Tualne as he only racked up 192 yards on 32 carries. He began the 2020 season as the starter and rushed for 274 yards in three games but suffered a season-ending ACL tear.
The Louisiana native bounced back in 2021. Spears ran for 863 yards and nine touchdowns averaging 6.7 yards per carry. His season was highlighted by a 264-yard performance against Memphis.
Spears went out with a bang last season as he led Tulane in rushing again with 1,581 yards (fifth in the nation) and 19 rushing touchdowns (tied for second in the nation). Spears was named first-team All-AAC and the AAC Offensive Player of the Year.
The explosiveness and exclusiveness of Spears are what make him such an intriguing prospect. His ability to plant his foot, make one cut and accelerate is unbelievable to watch in the open field. Spears also runs with great balance.
Ian Cummings of Pro Football Network on Spears:
Spears has a deadly mix of elite traits, among them explosiveness, agility and twitch, and creative instincts at all levels. Not only is he a hyperactive runner with blistering foot speed and snappy short-area athleticism, but he also has the control, vision, and awareness to use that athleticism efficiently and with calculated aggression against defenders.
Spears and his 4.47 speed would be a nice fit with Pollard as a one-two punch if he was drafted by the Cowboys next month and won the RB2 job.
