The Dallas Cowboys squeaked out an ugly win over the Houston Texans on Sunday. Dak Prescott threw two interceptions, the defense gave up 20 points before halftime, and the Texans nearly put the game away late in the fourth quarter.
Nonetheless, Dallas came out of the game victorious. Prescott was on the money in the final drive of the game. He accounted for 96 of the 98 yards gained on the drive by throwing and running. It was an extremely clutch — and needed — drive.
And that should scare the rest of the NFL.
Why? Because the Dallas Cowboys can turn it on at any point. There is enough talent on the roster to flip a game on its head when you least expect it. We have now seen that in the last two games.
Cowboys proving to be dangerous
Two games ago, the Dallas Cowboys were in a battle with the Indianapolis Colts. Then, all Dallas did was score 33 points in the final quarter. It resulted in a blowout victory for America's Team.
This past Sunday, the Cowboys needed a stop with the game winding down. They got it. The defense stopped the Texans on fourth-and-goal, putting the ball back in Prescott's hands. And then the offense delivered when it counted.
It's as if the Cowboys are playing with fire. You never want to play down to your competition or be in tight spots, but Dallas finds a way to make it work when push comes to shove.
Texans head coach Lovie Smith came away impressed with Prescott and the Cowboys. Dallas showed "a little bit of the champion in them" according to Smith.
“Gave them as many looks as we could," Smith said postgame. "But Dak Prescott is one of the best quarterbacks in our game and he’s going to hit some. I think they kind of showed a little bit of the champion in them.”
That "champion" in them should pay off in crunch time when the Dallas Cowboys look to make deep postseason run.
