The Cowboys have one of the best linebackers in the NFL in Micah Parsons. However, behind him, there's a lot to be desired.

Leighton Vander Esch is the only other guy in the linebacker room with significant production in the league, and he hasn't been the same since his rookie campaign thanks to injuries.

That means the Cowboys need depth at the position, and they added veteran Malik Jefferson who worked out for the team last week.

This is the second linebacker the Cowboys have signed recently. Last week, they brought Christian Sam on board, a former sixth-round pick out of Arizona State in 2018.

Jefferson has quite a decorated career during his days at the University of Texas. He was named a freshman All-American and the Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year in 2015. His final season (2017) with the Longhorns was his best as he garnered first-team All-Big 12, second-team All-American, and Big 12 Co-Defensive Player of the Year honors.

So far in the NFL, life hasn't been as pleasant for Jefferson. The Texas native has played for five other teams in four seasons (Bengals, Browns, Chargers, Titans, Colts) and only registered 16 tackles in 35 career games.

Jefferson will have to buckle down and show his worth in a few weeks when the Cowboys commence training camp in Oxnard, California if he has any hopes of making the roster.
