The Dallas Cowboys entered the season with significant question marks surrounding the wide receiver corps. Even late into the season, there are still some concerns about the group catching passes from Dak Prescott.

Moving on from Amari Cooper raised eyebrows of many. Why trade away a Pro Bowl receiver for little in return? Jerry Jones, even in the moment, explained some of the thinking that was coming from the front office.

A big reason why Dallas made the move was because they believed that Lamb was an "upgrade" over Cooper.

"Jones told the Star-Telegram that CeeDee Lamb will be an upgrade over Cooper as a true No. 1 receiver in the Cowboys offense," wrote Clarence Hill in the spring. "But Jones acknowledged Cooper had his issues and that Lamb has the makings of more a complete No. 1 receiver in “production, in the huddle and off the field.”

It has taken a bit to prove Jones right. Part of that is due to Prescott going down early in the season, causing Lamb to play five games with backup Cooper Rush. That, along with Lamb learning what it takes to be the alpha in the offense.

With Prescott back at quarterback, CeeDee Lamb has taken off. He is torching secondaries and having his way at different spots at the field. Where he has really thrived this season and is in the slot.

Lamb's versatile skill set gives offensive coordinator Kellen Moore different options to play with. Among those is utilizing Lamb more and more out of the slot. There, Lamb has been among the best in the entire NFL.

As a result, the Dallas Cowboy are on a championship trajectory.

Lamb has fully taken over his No. 1 role. He is a bonafide go-to weapon for the best scoring offense in football (when Prescott is behind center). 88 is beating defensive backs with his route running and creating plays after the catch.

The former Oklahoma star is living up to the hype and expectations that come with wearing his number.

Even Dez Bryant, who also starred while wearing 88, is taking notice.

Championship teams need elite talent, for obvious reasons. But especially in the passing game. All of the top contenders in this year's Super Bowl race have a top target to go to in critical moments:

  • Chiefs – Travis Kelce
  • Bills – Stefon Diggs
  • Bengals – Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins
  • Eagles – AJ Brown
  • 49ers – George Kittle and Deebo Samuel
  • Cowboys – CeeDee Lamb

The Dallas Cowboys have the makeup of a team that can make a lot of noise in the NFL Playoffs. And CeeDee Lamb's emergence into a superstar is a major reason why.
