The Dallas Cowboys have won four consecutive games. That seemed extremely unlikely when Dak Prescott went down in the week one loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Making the playoffs seemed far-fetched following that opening performance. The team as a whole looked poor, Mike McCarthy was seemingly on the hot seat, and questions surrounded when Prescott was going to be able to return.

Nonetheless, Dallas is playing clean, sound football and winning games. The defense is playing lights out, holding opponents to less than 20 points in each of the first five games of the season.

Now, the playoffs are extremely realistic for the Dallas Cowboys. In fact, Dallas sits in select company after the first five weeks of the 2022 NFL schedule.

Cowboys in great position to make postseason

The Cowboys have the third best odds to make the 2022 playoffs in the entire NFL. Dallas holds a 4-1 record and sit just one game back in the NFC East. Only the Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles currently have a better chance to make the postseason.

Dallas has flown a little bit under the radar in terms of being a true contender. Part of that is because a backup is behind center. Still, the Cowboys are proving to be one of the best teams in the NFC.

The Cowboys own wins over the Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Rams — the two teams that played in the Super Bowl last season. Additionally, Dallas has two divisional wins, including giving the only loss to the New York Giants.

Overall, the Cowboys are building a strong resume early in the season. That should continue being the case when Dak Prescott returns to action — possibly as soon as the week six matchup versus the Eagles.

There is still a lot of football to be played. However, the Dallas Cowboys have positioned themselves very nicely to make a real run this season.
