The 2022 season didn't end the way that Dak Prescott or the Dallas Cowboys would have liked. But on Thursday night, Prescott received the highest honor in the NFL.

After being a nominee twice (2018, 2021), Prescott was named the NFL's Walter Payton Man of the Year winner.

Prescott is the fourth member of the Cowboys organization to win the honor joining Roger Staubach (1978), Troy Aikman (1997), and Jason Witten (2012).

The NFL’s Man of the Year was established in 1970, and it’s given to the player that best exhibits outstanding philanthropy and community service as well as top-level play on the football field.

Once Prescott took the stage to accept the award, he didn't waste time honoring his mother, Peggy, who died in 2013 after battling cancer.

"My mother was, and still is, my moral compass," Prescott said. "Through my own charitable contributions, I seek to share her strength and courage with the world."

"My mother told me when she was diagnosed with cancer that, 'All greats have a story. Allow me to be your story.' She is my 'why.' And with these words, just as she does and always did, my mother inspired me and motivated me to be great beyond the circumstances. And it was in her honor I that started my foundation in 2017 and named it Faith, Fight, Finish, the three words she left me and my brothers."

Another inspiration for Prescott's foundation was his brother Jace who unfortunately committed suicide in 2020.

Prescott’s Faith Fight Finish Foundation endorses cancer research, mental health, and suicide prevention. Also, it focuses on bridging the gap between law enforcement and the people in the communities in which they serve.

Prescott has proven to be a true leader on the field, but his efforts off it have been truly inspiring and have set a template for others in the NFL to do the same.
