The Dallas Cowboys made a bit of a splash this offseason by trading for a big-name player in hopes of bolstering the defense. Dallas sent a late draft selection to the Indianapolis Colts, getting Pro Bowl corner Stephon Gilmore in return.
Gilmore has a Defensive Player of the Year honor under his belt and a ton of accolades on his impressive resume. While he may not be playing at his ridiculously high peak any longer, Gilmore is still considered to be among the best in the NFL.
That's backed up by Pro Football Focus ranking him as a top-10 corner in the league. However, it's not just on the field that Gilmore is impressing. Rather, the Cowboys newcomer has made a big impression in other ways, too.
Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn recently explained that he had heard several encouraging things about his new cornerback. But now, he has see why the veteran defender is so well thought of around the NFL.
“When we (traded for him), I bet I got 10-12 calls or texts saying, ‘DQ, this is your kind of guy. You’re gonna love this guy.’ That told me a lot." said Quinn. "And then in the first interaction, just knowing how hard he works at it and then seeing the connection with (Trevon Diggs) to start and then with some others, that was a big deal for me."
Furthermore, Quinn has been impressed by the way that Gilmore has arrived to the team wanting to help. He has a lot of big-game experience, and that could pay off for Dallas when it matters.
"(It says), ‘Not only do I have all this knowledge, but I’m willing to share that wisdom.’ That’s a really important thing for coaches to do, but also for veteran ball players to do if they have that ability to share," said Quinn.
The Dallas Cowboys went out and added a big-time player to its roster this offseason. And it has not taken long for Stephon Gilmore to turn heads on and off the field with his new team.
