Dallas Cowboys right tackle Terence Steele has been ruled out for the season with a torn ACL, per Bobby Belt from 105.3 The Fan.
Steele had to exit Sunday's game against the Houston Texans and MRI on Monday morning confirmed the already feared news.
On Sunday, Jerry Jones talked about moving forward with Josh Ball and Jason Peters taking Steele's place on the Cowboys' offensive line. Ball had a bad performance stepping in for Steele though and Peters was the right tackle for the Cowboys' 98-yard touchdown drive that ensured the team's tenth win of the season.
A lackluster performance against the Texans has been made even more difficult with the season-long loss.
Despite public comments by the Cowboys owner, early reports indicate the team will move on with Peters at right tackle.
If there's a silver lining to be found, it's Tyron Smith's imminent return from injury. The left tackle is already practicing with the team and is set to take over his position.
That would mean Tyron and Tyler Smith would hold down the left side of the unit, allowing the Cowboys to have more options in pass protection instead of having to focus their efforts (sliding protections, chipping defenders, etc.) on one particular side of the line.
Steele is set to become a restricted free agent in 2023, which means it's essentially up to the Cowboys whether he returns or not next year. Since this injury took place in December, it'll be a tough road back for the 25-year-old tackle.
