The Dallas Cowboys got it done.
After poorly mishandling their swing tackle situation by not adding a veteran during the offseason, which was highlighted when left tackle Tyron Smith tore his hamstring, the Cowboys have signed veteran Jason Peters to their practice squad.
Peters didn't pull any punches when he talked about what he wanted in terms of an opportunity for his 19th season, and the Cowboys check all the boxes.
“I’m looking for an up-and-coming offensive line [on a] good team or a playoff team,” Peters told SiriusXM NFL Radio. “Either way is good for me because I can teach or I can sit back and listen and learn from other veterans of the game, too.”
Peters brings an outstanding resume to Dallas. In 18 years, Peters has earned six All-Pro selections and started 218 games. Last season, he's only with the Chicago Bears, he showed he still had what it took to be a starting left tackle although his elite days are behind him.
This signing gives the Cowboys the depth they need at tackle with Tyler Smith set to start at left tackle due to Tyron Smith's injury. It also means if Connor McGovern doesn't pan out at left guard that the Cowboys could out Tyler Smith back there and have Peters play left tackle.
The was a mission that needed to be completed, and the Cowboys channeled their inner Tom Cruise to do so.
