The Dallas Cowboys are turning their attention to the NFL Draft and free agency. With multiple players set to hit the open market, the Cowboys will need to be smart about how they fill holes on the roster.
Dallas is undergoing some change on the offensive side of the ball. Kellen Moore is out and Mike McCarthy will be calling plays. Brian Schottenheimer was promoted to the offensive coordinator title. Then, there are question marks surrounding Tony Pollard and Ezekiel Elliott.
Uncertainty is one of the themes of the early offseason for the Cowboys. With that said, the front office has the opportunity to elevate the offensive side of the ball. Three potential first-round draft prospects could do just that.
New face at RB for Cowboys
Bijan Robinson is the consensus top running back in the 2023 NFL Draft class. And for good reason. The former five-star recruit lived up to his billing and more at Texas, emerging as one of the best running back prospects to enter the draft in recent memory.
What makes Robinson special is his ability to impact the game in so many different ways. He can run in between the tackles or get to the edge. Robinson can pass protect and make plays as a receiver. He can get the tough yards or break the big play.
It doesn't matter. Whatever you need, Robinson can do it. His presence would give the Dallas Cowboys an elite-level back on a rookie deal to take pressure off Dak Prescott and the passing game. That is a recipe for winning.
Dynamic pass catcher
Before the season, Ohio State wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba was widely regarded as the best pass catcher in the 2023 draft class. Fast forward to now, and there are questions on when the Rockwall, Texas, native will be drafted.
On one hand, Smith-Njigba was a very productive weapon on a potent Ohio State offense during his career in Columbus. On the other, he is coming off a season in which he barely played due to injuries. That is why his draft projection is a bit cloudy ahead of the NFL Scouting Combine and pro days.
Still, there is no denying JSN's talent. He was a five-star prospect coming out the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and quickly emerged as one of the premier receivers in college football. His ability to play in the slot and move around the formation would give the Dallas Cowboys some intriguing versatility.
Speedy deep threat
Speed, speed, speed. That is something that was missing from the Dallas Cowboys this past season. There wasn't really anybody that could consistently take the top off the defense for Dak Prescott to stretch the field with.
Enter Jalin Hyatt.
The former Tennessee receiver is ready-made to be a deep threat in the NFL. He features electrifying speed to go along with ball tracking ability. He averaged a whopping 18.9 yards per catch in 2022 while scoring 15 touchdowns.
Injecting that kind of speed could do wonders for the Dallas Cowboys offense. It would certainly have the potential to open everything else up and therefore elevating the entire unit.
