The Dallas Cowboys just accomplished something big.
Running back Tony Pollard, who was hit with the franchise tag for $10.091 million, has put his signature to it, locking him in for the 2023 season.
Pollard will play on that price tag next season unless a long-term deal is reached by the July deadline. If not, Pollard would become a free agent again in 2024, and a second franchise tag would cost the Cowboys $13.7 million according to Over The Cap.
The former fourth-round pick had a career-high 193 carries last season and made them all count. Pollard led the Cowboys with 1,007 yards, averaging five yards per attempt for the third time in his first four years in the league.
Ronald Jones, Malik Davis, and Rico Dowdle will battle for who will have RB2 duties. However, with Ezekiel Elliott gone, Pollard is the lead horse in the Cowboys' running back room for the first time in his career.
