The 2023 Dallas Cowboys season has come to an end much earlier than fans would've liked following a 48-32 loss to the Green Bay Packers during the wild-card round of the playoffs.
The Cowboys are now officially in offseason mode. And although early questions are revolving around the job security of head coach Mike McCarthy, things will quickly change as free agency and the Draft loom in the horizon.
Speaking of the NFL Draft, it's a good time to write this down: They officially hold the 24th overall pick.
Right now, it's too early to have a clear idea on who will interest the Cowboys but this much is clear: They surely will have enough team needs to speak of. Offensive line, wide receiver, linebacker, cornerback, safety, and even defensive line could be in the mix.
This draft class is expected to be heavy on wide receiver and offensive line and those two are likely going to be discussed a lot leading up toward the end of April. However, it is indeed to early to tell.
Some people will be pounding the table to grab a quarterback as insurance to Dak Prescott, who mightily struggled versus the Packers after putting together an MVP-caliber season that earned him Second-Team All-Pro and will likely make him the runner up to MVP behind Lamar Jackson.
However, that would be highly unlikely as far as the first-round goes. After all, Prescott's contract situation almost guarantees an extension over the next few months as it's the likeliest path toward competing next season. That doesn't mean the team can't look at quarterback and last year's trade for Trey Lance suggests the front office is still interested in finding somebody to develop behind their current signal caller who will be entering his ninth year in the NFL.
The Cowboys are currently slated to pick 24th, 56th, and 87th in the first three rounds.
