Top 3 Cowboys players ever who should've had an injury-free career

This week, one tweet went viral among the sports community containing one impossible-to-answer question: "You can choose one player to have an injury-free career, who is it?"
My immediate reaction was to yell "GREG COOK!" at my phone and shake it angrily at everyone with a different answer than mine. How dare they? After all, Bill Walsh – who happened to coach Joe Montana and Steve Young – described Cook as the best talent he's seen at quarterback. I'll admit Andrew Luck and Bo Jackson also came to mind.
But then I wondered, what if we're just talking about Dallas Cowboys players? After thinking about it for a while during these offseason days, I came up with my Top 3. You can check them out below and reach out to me on Twitter at @MauNFL to tell me who I missed because I know I did!
1. QB Tony Romo
I mean, it's the obvious answer, right? Romo had the play-making ability to extend plays and be a difference-maker on offense. While many fans and media members will always debate about his playoff performance, I consider the biggest knock on his career to be his injury problems. Too many times, Romo's health was what derailed seasons. There were the 2010, 2013, and 2015 seasons… all of which we were left wondering what could've been.
Even when the Cowboys had built the league's best offensive line around him, there were issues.
Think about this: The Cowboys even selected RB Ezekiel Elliott with the No. 4 overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft to try to extend Romo's playing career by taking some of the load off of him.
I believe Romo had what it took to take this team just over the hump and into Championship territory. He'd be my no-brainer pick to make a player's career injury-free. There are too many seasons that could've gone differently.
2. C Travis Frederick
It might seem like a lifetime ago, but Frederick would likely still be a Cowboy if health concerns hadn't popped before he turned 30. He surprisingly retired in 2020 claiming he couldn't be the best version of himself as a player after recovering from Guillain-Barré syndrome.
But Frederick arguably would've been held in the same light as we hold Zack Martin: The best at his position and undeniably one of the best players on the entire team.
2023 would be his 10th season in the NFL in a career path leading straight to the Hall of Fame. Not the most exciting position for casual fans, but Frederick's career ended too soon.
3. LB Sean Lee
Don't think about the stat sheet for now. Think about Sean Lee playing. The linebacker who always knew where the ball was going and who always stood up in crunch time. A Hall of Fame caliber talent comparable to the best of the best.
And yet, just one 16-game season to his name. Just one All-Pro year. An always-healthy version of Lee would've had much more of those. But doing so playing incomplete seasons is tough He had to make the list.
Honorable mentions: Miles Austin, Tyron Smith, Michael Irvin (just for him to retire his way)
