Dallas has been linked to Nakobe Dean out of Georgia in several mock drafts. However, one of the NFL's best linebackers, Bobby Wagner, was recently released by the Seattle Seahawks.
Wagner played under Cowboys' defensive coordinator Dan Quinn for two seasons in Seattle (2013-2104) and that connection made him signing in Dallas a possibility, especially with mutual interest on both sides.
Unfortunately, a reunion between the two seems unlikely as talks haven't gained any real traction to this point.
Wagner has been productive since he came into the NFL. In his 10 seasons, he's tallied over 100 tackles in each with 104 being his lowest which came in 2014 when he missed five games with turf toe. Wagner has led the NFL in tackles twice (2016, 2019) and been named an All-Pro eight times.
If the Cowboys could have snagged Wagner it would have been a huge win in free agency after the solid additions of edge rusher Dante Fowler and wide receiver James Washington. Wagner would allow Parsons to rush the passer more which he did a great job of with 13 sacks as a rookie. Also, the Cowboys mostly run out of a two-linebacker set so Wagner and Parsons would be quite the combination going sideline to sideline.
The Cowboys had trouble stopping the run consistently throughout the 2021 season. Wagner is known for filling gaps and disrupting the running game of opposing offenses, and with Parsons beside him, and good defensive line play, of course, the Cowboys could have improved greatly in that area with him on the roster.
The thought of signing Wagner was a nice one but it appears to be another in a long list of missed opportunities for the Cowboys in free agency although they're currently second in the NFL in cap space at $26.9 million.
