DALLAS — The Dallas Cowboys will kickoff the 2022 NFL season looking to repeat as NFC East champions. That is a feat that has not been accomplished by any team in the division since 2004.
Needless to say, the Cowboys will be forced to overcome history to win back-to-back division titles. Dak Prescott behind center and Micah Parsons leading the defense are two factors in the Cowboys' favor.
The Philadelphia Eagles undoubtedly appear to be the biggest challenger to the Dallas Cowboys for next season. Philadelphia made the playoffs as a Wildcard team in 2021 and are rolling on some momentum this offseason.
Philadelphia traded for wide receiver AJ Brown, drafted massive defender Jordan Davis, and signed veteran defensive back James Bradberry. That is all with the Cowboys moving on from Amari Cooper, La'el Collins, and Randy Gregory.
One reason why Cowboys-Eagles is appointment television
The signing of Bradberry, in particular, makes this matchup must-watch television. The battles between the Cowboys' passing attack and the Eagles' secondary is fascinating.
CeeDee Lamb looks primed to take another step forward after earning Pro Bowl honors last season. Lamb has all the potential and talent in the world to be a bonafide first-option, and he now has the opportunity to do just that.
Elsewhere, Michael Gallup will be a big factor in the offense once he returns from a torn ACL injury that ended his 2021 season. Rookie wideout Jalen Tolbert is an intriguing prospect that can play anywhere in the offense. Additionally, signing James Washington was an underrated move.
On the other side, the Eagles have improved in the defensive backfield. Pro Bowl corner Darius Slay leads the way with his playmaking and ball skills. Avonte Maddox has developed into a solid player in the secondary as well.
The addition of Bradberry gives Philly legit defenders to throw at the Cowboys' weapons. Even without Cooper in the fold, Dallas has legit firepower on the offensive side. There is a lot to be excited about when matching these teams up on paper.
It is expected that the NFC East will come down to these two squads. Perhaps who performs best in this department — the Cowboys receivers versus Eagles defensive backs — will win the division crown.
