While the Dallas Cowboys are waiting until Sunday to begin their 2022 season, the NFL kicked things off on Thursday. The matchup featured the Super Bowl champs, Los Angeles Rams, against the Super Bowl favorites, Buffalo Bills.

Josh Allen and the Bills offense provided an entertaining show. However, one player in particular on the Bills reminded how the Cowboys made an error this offseason.

Veteran pass rusher — and future Hall of Fame defender — Von Miller made his presence felt on Thursday night. Miller won the Super Bowl with the Rams last season, so there was surely some added motivation during the performance.

Von Miller recorded two sacks and four tackles in the Bills' 31-10 win during the NFL kickoff. He showcased his quickness off the edge and proved that he still has a lot left in the tank.

Even expanding the sample size, Miller has been a terror for offensive lines and quarterbacks. Miller has totaled 23 pressures, three quarterback hits, and five sacks in his last four games, dating back to the 2021 season.

The Cowboys, of course, were in talks with Miller to bringing the All-Pro talent back home to the Lone Star State. Miller attended DeSoto High School, just outside of Dallas, and starred at Texas A&M on the collegiate level.

Instead, things fell through and Von Miller now plays for the team that is favored to the Super Bowl. Tough break for Dallas, especially since the Cowboys also lost Randy Gregory in free agency.

Jerry Jones has no regrets

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was asked about Von Miller on Friday morning, just hours after Miller's strong performance. Jones explained that he likes the "makeup" of the Cowboys, even without Miller.

"We gave (signing Von Miller) consideration," Jones stated during his appearance on 105.3 The Fan. "I love our defense."

Knowing that there was mutual interest between the two parties makes Miller's performance on Thursday night that much worse to watch if you are the Cowboys.

It is true that the Dallas Cowboys have playmakers on defense. Micah Parsons is an unreal talent, and Trevon Diggs is the definition of a ballhawk. DeMarcus Lawerence is still going strong, and Jayron Kearse enjoyed a breakout season in Dan Quinn's scheme.

Still, the thought of adding Von Miller to that equation, only to see him sign and thrive elsewhere, is a tough pill to swallow for the Cowboys.
