Free agency and the Dallas Cowboys are like pineapple and pizza. They don't go together. Especially not in recent memory.

The last time the Dallas Cowboys spent big on an outside free agent was in 2012 when they signed Brandon Carr to a five-year $50 million deal. Since then, the front office philosophy is simple and staunch: spend on our own. Don't spend big outside. Find inexpensive veterans to fill holes. Focus heavily on the draft. Rinse and repeat.

A philosophy that has fielded similar results to the contrary. Alternations between success and failures.

It used to be that the front office could sell a free agent to sign there, just by having the brand name Dallas Cowboys attached to them. That's not the case anymore. Especially with the way the front office is run. Creating frustrations from within, reaching to the outside world.

Ultimately there continues to be an obvious observation from the outside. The Dallas Cowboys 'brand' isn't what it once was. It's not enough to have the opportunity to wear the star. The results need to land players in deep playoff and championship runs. Year after year.

Especially if the richest sports franchise in the world is handing out contracts like they're Wal-Mart. Cheap management and insulting to the employees.

Current and former players are making it a point to call out the Jones' and the way the team is being constructed. As it is looking more and more as the definition of insanity.

Von Miller is just the latest player to expose the ineptitude of the front office. Not only would he have taken less money, but Dallas was where he wanted to be.

One of his recent quotes speaks directly to it:

"I told them I was ready to come to the Cowboys. I would have taken less to go to Dallas because it’s Dallas. But I wouldn't take that much less"

Miller was subsequently offered the same deal offered to Randy Gregory, before Gregory opted to go to the Denver Broncos on a five-year $70 million deal. The same money, but rubbed Gregory the wrong way with the sly, included language of the contract. An incident that brought embarrassment across the entire Cowboys Nation.

Whether it's been Miller, Gregory, Bobby Wagner or an in-house disgruntled player in DeMarcus Lawrence, the proof is (continuously) in the pudding. Not only is the Dallas Cowboys front office's team-building strategy's not working, but it's alienating players. At home and around the league.

Unfortunately, Von Miller is just the current player to speak on the frugality of the front office. Won't be the last.
