It was in the making for quite some time but the Dallas Cowboys finally made it happen. In the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, they selected running back Deuce Vaughn out of Kansas State.
What makes it so special? Deuce is the son of Cowboys scout Chris Vaugh. As you might imagine, that led to a very emotional moment in the team's War Room as he got ready to welcome his son into the NFL.
After the Cowboys turned the card in, Vaughn immediately stood up and hugged Stephen Jones and Jerry Jones. Per ESPN's Todd Archer, Vaughn was allowed to stay away from the scouting discussions regarding his son.
Cowboys Nation can't wait to get to listen to what was said in that phone call between father and son. The Cowboys usually release those after the fact and you just know it's going to be one that gets the waterworks going.
As for the player, Vaughn is an absolute weapon even though his height is a concern for many. At Kansas State, he put up absolutely ridiculous numbers. In each of his last two years, he rushed for at least over 1,400 yards while also making an impact as a receiver.
While undersized, durability wasn't an issue as a Wildcat as he started 30 straight games for Kansas State. Vaughn can run, catch, and make opponents miss.
He's already drawn comparisons to Darren Sproles during the Draft process. Hopefully, his career is plagued with highlights. Without playing a single down yet, he already has one to speak of.
That was an epic moment for the Cowboys.
