The Dallas Cowboys were extremely fourtnate to come away with Dak Prescott in the 2016 NFL Draft. Prescott fell to the fourth-round of the draft and right into the Cowboys' hands.

But, not before the Cowboys thought hard about selecting a different quarterback in that same class. It is widely known that Jerry Jones was very intrigued about Paxton Lynch, who wound up being drafted late in the first-round.

“We were working real hard to get up there for the quarterback Paxton Lynch," Jones infamously said back in 2016.

Instead, the team grabbed Prescott on the final day of the draft, and it's safe to say that has worked out tremendously. Prescott started as a rookie and has not looked back.

Multiple divisional titles and playoff appearances later, it's easy to see that the Cowboys avoided a potential disaster. That is especially true considering the career that Lynch has gone on to have since then.

More proof that Cowboys avoided disaster

Paxton Lynch would flame out as a starter in the NFL. He never came close to living up to his draft-day billing. And it quickly became obvious that the Dallas Cowboys made the very smart move to not make a trade up.

Now, Lynch is trying to find his footing in the XFL. The former Memphis star plays for the Orlando Guardians in the league. While he was named the week one starter, Lynch was benched before the season opener concluded.

Lynch threw an interception on his final play of his debut performance. Orlando made the decision to pull Lynch in the third quarter. Furthermore, the Guardians managed to score just 12 points in the loss to the Houston Roughnecks.

Crazy how things turn out.

The Dallas Cowboys wanted Paxton Lynch. Instead, they got Dak Prescott. And it's extremely easy to say that the Cowboys are huge winners in that trade-off. This weekend was just further proof of that.
