Dallas Cowboys offensive lineman Zack Martin is the heart and soul of the team. He is an All-Pro talent that has stepped into a leadership role since the early stages of his NFL career.
Martin has enjoyed success, while he has also ended seasons on a bitter note. He knows what it takes to win and is a big reason why Dallas has won a lot of games since he was drafted back in 2014.
His most recent comments will fire up the fan base. Because he believes that the team will be playing with an edge when the next season kicks off. A lot of that is due to head coach Mike McCarthy taking over playcalling duties.
"I think he’s going to bring an edge to our offense," Martin said of McCarthy. "We’re still going to run the football. It’s going to be a big part of what we’re doing. I think just the communication and the little details that we’ve added this year are going to allow everyone to be on the same page."
McCarthy will step back into his comfort zone after Kellen Moore left to coordinate the offense for the Los Angeles Chargers. The Cowboys' head coach called plays during his Super Bowl-winning tenure with the Green Bay Packers.
The Cowboys' All-Pro lineman explained that McCarthy has an edge to him, and that will feed off to the players on the roster. In addition to being on the same page, Martin believes the edge will translate to the playing field.
"He’s got a little edge," Martin told the media about his head coach. "He’s a Pittsburgh guy. When the guy in front of you is showing you that every day, it rubs off on the group.”
Perhaps that is something that the Dallas Cowboys have been lacking: playing with an edge. Fortunately, Zack Martin does not believe that will be any kind of issue when the 2023 NFL season kicks off.
