Dallas Cowboys Christmas: What Players Are Which Presents?
It is officially that time of year again. Christmas lights are gleaming, gingerbread men are baking, and Christmas music is blasting. It is officially that time of year again. Christmas lights are gleaming, gingerbread men are baking, and Christmas music is blasting. So, of course, that all begs the question… If Cowboys players were Christmas presents, what would they be?
Dak Prescott: Socks
Socks – reliable and somewhat overlooked by many during the Christmas season. Furthermore, you do not realize how important a good supply of socks is until you run out of them. Similarly, Dak Prescott was taken for granted by many fans as well as members of the national media before his injury. Since his injury, the Cowboys season has spiraled downward significantly, and his value to Dallas has rang true. Like a nice pair of socks, Cowboys fans appreciate Prescott more now because they have seen life without him for their team in 2020.
Ezekiel Elliot: Luggage
Ezekiel Elliott's contract is in discussions ad nauseam with the Cowboys salary cap situation and Tony Pollard's emergence. That doesn't make the point incorrect, though. Equally, luggage is expensive for how much people use it once they receive it. Is it worth the price compared to a well-made, inexpensive duffel bag (Tony Pollard)? Probably not – but a lot of money has gone into the gift. Zeke is still talented, but the contract looms large.
CeeDee Lamb: The New iPhone
Is there a younger, shinier present in the NFL than CeeDee Lamb? Maybe not. Lamb is delivering about as well as anyone could have hoped for through his first season with Dallas, most of which has been without Dak Prescott. Almost every Cowboys fan, young or old, is excited about CeeDee's future in Dallas. Not to mention, Lamb was labeled a "luxury" pick for the Cowboys in the 2020 NFL Draft. The newest Apple product is quite the luxury gift as well.
Zack Martin: A Winter Coat
Zack Martin has been a mainstay for the Cowboys for years, and he will no doubt be a Hall of Famer. He has provided elite protection for his quarterbacks over his entire career. A brand new, warm winter coat does that for whoever receives it as well. Martin is not flashy or distracting. He does his job – plain and simple. A jacket may not send anyone over-the-moon on Christmas, but it's safe and very effective.
Leighton Vander Esch: A Pair of Headphones
Leighton Vander Esch is probably a step below Apple AirPods but a step above those cheap, bulky headphones. When healthy, LVE has shown he can be a great linebacker for Dallas. Although, what do headphones begin to do months/years after Christmas? They begin to glitch or break completely. Since his rookie year, more dents have appeared in LVE's armor, and he has struggled to stay healthy over a long span of time. Those headphones work perfectly at first – but they begin to break down some over time or you may just lose them altogether.
L. P. Ladouceur: A Necktie (via Zack Dietz, NFL Draft Bible)
Ladouceur is probably a lesser-known Cowboys player, but he has been a Cowboy longer than some Dallas fans have been alive. The Cowboys signed L.P. in 2005. He has been the team's long snapper ever since. He has gotten the job done for fifteen years, even if he is not particularly well-known. A necktie does the same. It doesn't have to stand out, but it is crucial to a spiffy suit. Ladouceur has been nails for the Cowboys for over a century, so you could even call him their "lucky tie" over that time.
This season has been a bit of a "lump of coal" for Cowboys fans. Alas, there is still a chance the team makes the playoffs or gets a top-five pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. That weirdness is 2020 in a nutshell.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
