The Cowboys aren't big players in free agency due to the frugal philosophy of team executive Stephen Jones. Instead, they look to the NFL draft to make significant improvements to their roster and have built a good reputation over the last several years with picks like Micah Parsons, Trevon Diggs, and CeeDee Lamb.

NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah recently voiced some opinions on which way the Cowboys should go in this year's draft. Earlier this week, he predicted the Cowboys would take linebacker Nakobe Dean out of Georgia in the first round. However, on a media zoom call that also took place this week, Washington cornerback Kyler Gordon made Jeremiah's radar for the Cowboys as well, as Jeremiah sees him as a fit for what they do defensively.

NFL.com digital content editor Adam Maya had this to say about Jeremiah's thoughts on Gordon going to Dallas.

"Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn is credited for evolving the club's philosophy on personnel. Jeremiah noted that going back to his time in Atlanta with GM Thomas Dimitroff, Quinn has been known to value dynamic athletes. With Dallas needing a cornerback, Jeremiah said Kyler Gordon of Washington "would be a fascinating fit."

"He's got the size and length that you love, he's big-time explosive," Jeremiah said. "It would be fun to see him on the other side of (Trevon) Diggs."

Below is Gordon's scouting report via Drae Harris of The Draft Network:

"Kyler Gordon is an exceptional athlete with explosive and dynamic movement. In the run game, he comes up hard when he is the force player in zone. He is an eager participant in the run game and does a good job as a tackler on the perimeter and in space as a core special teamer. In the passing game, he is exceptional. His outstanding agility and quickness in coverage help him stay in phase. From press alignment, he often uses bail technique and closes quickly when he can play with vision. From off man, he can get a little “nosey” with his eyes but obviously trusts his athleticism in these instances. In the NFL, he has the athleticism and hips to be a starting outside corner. However, his tackling ability, instincts, and agility also project him favorably to playing inside, giving him true inside/outside flexibility."

The Cowboys don't have a pressing need at cornerback. Diggs is coming off of an All-Pro campaign in year two. Although Anthony Brown isn't an elite corner, he's a solid No. 2 who just had his best season. Kelvin Joseph, who was drafted in the second round a year ago, showed very promising flashes once he hit the field after dealing with a groin injury. Jourdan Lewis, the Cowboys' slot corner, is coming off of his best season in the NFL as well after signing a three-year extension last March.

Depth can't be undervalued though and in a passing league, no team can have too many cornerbacks. Given the flexibility of Gordon, he could give defensive coordinator Dan Quinn a lot of possibilities in terms of finding the right rotation for his secondary to be the most effective if he is selected.

Gordon had his best collegiate season in 2021 by registering 45 tackles, two interceptions, and seven passes defended. He's a player that the Cowboys may be able to take on Day 2 of the draft.
