The Dallas Cowboys (10-3) are already dealing with the loss of OT Terence Steele for the year, but have another problem that continues to plague them: WR3.
Their game against the Houston Texans was another reminder of why they have been so engulfed in the OBJ sweepstakes for so long. Outside of CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup, they lack that third consistent threat. A wide receiver who can create separation and take pressure off Lamb and Gallup.
While the Cowboys may be pulling themselves out of that shopping center, they're not done with the bargain bins all together it seems. Despite Noah Brown's great game, they are looking into this respected veteran to fill the need
Respected Cowboys insider Jane Slater indicated on her Instagram story that Dallas could be looking at free agent WR T.Y. Hilton to fill the current void.
A bit of a surprise as Hilton, 33, has not played all season and many considered the receiver to be done. He mulled retirement last season after a heart-to-heart with his former quarterback, Andrew Luck, but instead returned to play, appearing in 10 games in 2021.
At the moment, however, Hilton is still active as an unrestricted free agent.
This is not the first time the Dallas Cowboys have gaged mutual interest from Hilton. The two sides met with considerations back in March, with no deal signed and nothing new developing from that.
Now, with the playoffs looming, are the Cowboys ready to add the speedy 4-time Pro Bowler?
In his career, Hilton has 631 receptions for 9,691 yards and 53 touchdowns, and has played in nine career postseason games.
While he may not have the talent that fans wanted from Beckham, he would fill and theoretically upgrade the position in time for the playoffs. A similar route the Cowboys used by adding Jason Peters to fill the Tyron Smith void, and instead will fill the void from Steele.
One thing is for sure, the Cowboys front office this year is showing a willingness to seek upgrades in free agency and the trade market. Something we haven't seen in recent years. Knowing the urgency and realism that this team can compete for a championship.
We will continue to monitor as the news develops.
