Now that the Dallas Cowboys (6-2) are heading into the bye week, they can use the upcoming week to focus on in-house questions.
Questions like injuries ahead of their week 10 game against the Green Bay Packers. Getting their team healthy at the turning point of the season, halfway through 2022.
As well as questions surrounding adding talent from the outside. Particularly at wide receiver.
While Dallas Cowboys Hall of Famer Michael Irvin seemingly has inside knowledge that WR Odell Beckham Jr would welcome coming to Dallas, everyone else seems to notice their wide receiver woes.
Following their 49-29 win over the Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones spoke to the media.
Mentioning that other teams around the NFL know they're in the market for receiving help. Dallas currently 26th in passing offense. Even with the re-emergence of Dak Prescott setting franchise records, it's obvious to everyone they need help.
Despite Jones's earlier comments saying they wouldn't be active in the trade market, they acquired NT Johnathan Hankins from the Las Vegas Raiders. Hankins made his debut, playing the run well in his limited snaps.
Is Jerry doing the same thing again?
The likelihood is that the reason teams are inquiring with the Cowboys about wide receivers is because Dallas has been active. Making calls and seeing what the costs would be to add more talent. Now that it's commonly known, other teams are calling the front office back with trade offers.
Great news is that thanks to the bye week, should they look to trade for a player, they'd have two weeks to get them up to speed. A welcomed sighting with how the wide receiver room looks now.
- CeeDee Lamb is becoming a true WR1 but can't do it alone.
- Michael Gallup had his best game of the season, but is having drop and separation issues returning from injury.
- Third-round rookie Jalen Tolbert is a non-factor.
- Noah Brown is having a breakout year, but is dealing with a foot injury.
- Simi Fehoko is on injured reserve.
- KaVontae Turpin is electric, but better served as their superstar return man.
- James Washington is set to return from injury. But how much can he factor into the receiving game when he hasn't played all year? Is he suddenly going to factor into the offense?
While the Dallas Cowboys might not need to add a superstar receiver, other teams know the truth. They need help on the outside.
Will Jerry and Stephen pick up the phone?
