Dalton Schultz is one of the most notable impending free agents that the Dallas Cowboys have to make a decision on this offseason.
Schultz had a breakout season with the Cowboys in 2021, emerging as a trusted target for Dak Prescott. The 2018 fourth-rounder grabbed 78 passes for 808 yards and eight touchdowns last season.
Now, Schultz is set to capitalize on his strong campaign.
Spotrac sets the Cowboys tight end's market value at $12.6 million annually. The AAV is in-line with the contract that the likes of Mark Andrews and Hunter Henry have previously inked.
There is already discussion that the Dallas Cowboys will move on from Amari Cooper this offseason. DeMarcus Lawrence is another candidate to be a cap casualty on the roster.
Therefore, it wouldn't make much sense for the Cowboys to pay Schultz a ton of money in order to keep him around.
Fortunately, the upcoming 2022 NFL Draft has a handful of tight end prospects worth the Cowboys' attention.
COWBOYS MEET WITH MULTIPLE TIGHT ENDS

This year's draft class does not have a tight end prospect anywhere near the caliber of Kyle Pitts. Pitts was drafted fourth overall in the 2021 NFL Draft, and many draftniks considered him to be the best overall player in the class.
That said, there are still a handful of tight end prospects that have the ability to make an impact on the NFL level.
With Schultz set to hit free agency, the Dallas Cowboys are doing their due-diligence at the NFL Scouting Combine. Dallas has met with a few different tight end prospects in Indianapolis this week.
Among those include former Texas A&M standout Jalen Wydermyer. Wydermyer, a native of Dickinson, Texas, posted 118 catches for 1,468 yards and 16 touchdowns over three seasons with the Aggies.
In addition to Wydermyer, the Cowboys have also met with the following tight ends at the combine:
- Cade Otton, Washington
- Isaiah Likely, Coastal Carolina
- Grant Calcaterra, SMU
Schultz entering free agency and Blake Jarwin undergoing offseason surgery means the position is thin for the Cowboys.
Dallas is smart to meet with as many tight ends as possible in Indy to develop a game plan for free agency and draft strategies.
