The Dallas Cowboys main focus is still on the playoffs. Taking on the San Francisco 49ers in round two.
However, draft season never ends.
As soon as one NFL Draft ends, the Cowboys scouting department gets started in preparation for the next draft cycle.
Before the Reese's Senior Bowl, NFL Scouting Combine or even general pro days, college football players from all over the country are taking part in All-Star games of sorts. Giving scouts an extra look at them and their skills in new environments.
One of these is the Hula Bowl, where the Dallas Cowboys are already doing their due diligence. Meeting with William & Mart TE Lachlan Pitts.
Pitts is a sixth-year senior for The Tribe, and third generation college football player. His grandfather having played at UNC and father at South Carolina.
From 2018-22, he played in 27 games. Not catching his first pass until 2021. His breakout season came in 2022, with 28 receptions, 543 yards and five touchdowns. Eight for his career.
With TE Dalton Schultz set to hit free agency this off-season, that would leave a Cowboys position room left with rookies Jake Ferguson and Peyton Hendershot. As well as third-year veteran Sean McKeon.
It makes sense that Dallas wants to do secure as many names as possible for a position that is key in their offense. Often running 2-3 TE's together at a time.
Expect Pitts to be the first of many.
