It has been quite the offseason for the Dallas Cowboys.
From willingly moving on from Amari Cooper and La'el Collins to losing out on Randy Gregory in bizarre fashion, there have been no shortage of storylines. The Cowboys have not exactly made any significant additions, either.
With that said, the Dallas Cowboys have made a few important moves this offseason.
For starters, Dallas re-signed safety Jayron Kearse to a team-friendly deal. Kearse emerged as a key player on the Cowboys' defense last season, but the veteran defender did not have a large free agent market. That move secures the back-end of the defense.
Additionally, the Cowboys made the decision to ink Michael Gallup to an extension. Keeping Gallup in the building was crucial after moving on from Cooper. Dallas could not afford to have CeeDee Lamb as the only returning receiver of significance on the roster.
The Gallup extension came with some mixed reviews — as does the majority of moves that the Cowboys make.
On one hand, Gallup is a fan favorite and an important player on the roster. On the other, he is coming off an injury-filled season and could be potentially replaced through the draft.
Nonetheless, the Cowboys used the money saved from parting ways with Cooper to sign Gallup to a five-year deal.

The five-year deal that the Cowboys signed Gallup to is worth $57.5 million in total. $27 million is guaranteed, and the Cowboys have ways out of the deal early in the contract. Overall, it is a good deal.
As a result, Pro Football Focus included Gallup as one of the biggest bargains of the free agency period. PFF salary cap analyst Brad Spielberger listed the deal between Dallas and the receiver as one of his favorite moves.
There is a lot to like about Michael Gallup. Since being drafted in the third-round of the 2018 draft, the Colorado State product has emerged as a favorite target for Dak Prescott. Gallup can stretch the field vertically and win contested catches.
Gallup has shown the ability to eclipse 1,000 yards receiving and is a true WR2. He is a great secondary option in the receiving game and should complement CeeDee Lamb well moving forward.
The Cowboys can still add a wideout through the draft, but Michael Gallup provides Dallas with a reliable pass catcher for Prescott. This signing is a positive for the Cowboys' front office in an otherwise head-scratching offseason to this point.
