The Dallas Cowboys coaching staff has said that there are many jobs that will be open for competition. Such as left guard or center.

In truth, those positions are open for grabs in name only. Likely just to light a fire under Tyler Smtih and Tyler Biadasz, respectively, to better keep their jobs.

Depth will get filled out as the cuts are made, and the final 53-man roster is formed. Facts are that there are really only on starting job up for grabs. Place kicker.

While Lirim Hajrullahu and Brett Maher are both in competition for the kicking job, they both have their deficits.

Maher has all the power in the world, with a lack of consistent accuracy. To his credit, he completed 88.9% of his field goals (94.1% from 49 yards and under) and 83.33% of his extra points in eight games with the Saints.

Hajrullahu is much more consistently accurate but has never made a kick beyond 35 yards in an NFL game. However, has only ever attempted one kick beyond 40 yards in his short career.

Is it possible the Dallas Cowboys could add to the competition by adding an undrafted rookie kicker from the state of Texas? No, not Jonathan Garibay. Texas-ex kicker/punter Cameron Dicker.

Dicker was undrafted by the LA Rams, but was brought in to play punter. In position he also played in at Texas.

It was a long shot (pun intended) that Dicker would be able to beat out six-time all-pro Johnny Hekker. However, it's not inconceivable that the rookie could beat out a pair of inconsistent veteran kickers.

For accuracy and power, he could be a possible upgrade over BOTH Maher and Hajrullahu, on potential alone, having completed a higher percentage of kicks in each season, other than a small dip in his junior season.

Dicker hold the record for points scored (386) and field goals made (60) in Texas history. As well as one of the longest kicks in program history (57 yards).

Now that first cuts have been made, and Dicker has cleared waivers, he will be able to sign with another team. Even though the Dallas Cowboys won't want to add more questions to the kicker position, it's a position that needs to keep being addressed until the right player is found.

Could it be filled by a four year starting, three time all-conference kicker with plenty of in-state support, and ice where his blood should be?
