As the Dallas Cowboys (5-2) get ready to take on the Chicago Bears (3-4), the team on the field is going to look quite a bit different than what they put out there last Sunday.
QB Dak Prescott is making his second straight start after his return from injury, having played a much better game in the second half, and is expected to look more himself in this game.
Additionally, the Cowboys won't have their leading rusher, RB Ezekiel Elliott (knee). The team opting to give him this week and the bye week to get healthy.
In addition to Dallas not having Zeke, they likely will be without TE Dalton Schultz as well. Who continues to deal with a knee injury suffered in week two, that has already caused him to miss time.
In response, the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday announced the following roster moves:
- RB Malik Davis and TE Sean McKeon are officially added to the 53-man roster
- RB Qadree Ollison and OL Dakoda Shepley are now elevated from the practice squad.
- LB Devin Harper (Achilles) is now placed on IR.
With Rico Dowdle on IR and Elliott to miss at least this game, it will give Davis some of the short yardage plays Elliott would carry. While Tony Pollard is expected to be the heavy feature back.
McKeon's addition gives the Cowboys four tight ends on the roster. Similar to how they formed last year's roster. With Schultz's health in question, it only leaves rookies Jake Ferguson and Peyton Hendershot as the other options.
Quadree Wilson and Dakoda Shepley are likely just depth additions. With special teams play to see their full use, with Shepley as added depth with Matt Farniok on IR.
Devin Harper to IR is disappointing, with a good display so far this season as a special teamer, but hasn't been active since week three against the NY Giants.
However, with this injury nagging him enough, including the arrival of fifth-round pick Damone Clark, Harper is really more of an IR-stash. A modified red-shirt season.
We may see even more moves during the bye week. The NFL Trade Deadline is approaching, Clark and WR James Washington are expected to return soon and there's no telling how much these injuries will affect Elliott and Schultz past the halfway point.
