The Dallas Cowboys are set to take on the Los Angeles Rams here shortly in week one of the 2020 season. All eyes will be on how well the first game of the Mike McCarthy era goes out in L.A.
Dallas was already going to be without star right tackle La'el Collins, as Collins was placed on IR and will miss the first three weeks of the season. The expectation was that former Chiefs lineman Cam Erving would step in and attempt to fill that void against the Rams; however, that appears to not be the case.
The Athletic's Jon Machota tweeted out that the Cowboys are turning to former Texas Tech offensive lineman Terence Steele.
Steele, an undrafted free agent, started four seasons in Lubbock for the Red Raiders while being selected as a team captain during each of his final two seasons on the collegiate level.
The 6-foot-6, 310-pound lineman earned All-Big 12 accolades, but Sunday night provides a much steeper challenge as Steele looks to replace one of the best players on the Cowboys roster. Steele is tasked with protecting quarterback Dak Prescott while also helping pave the way for running back Ezekiel Elliott.
In other roster-related news, the Dallas Cowboys announced that quarterback Ben DiNucci, cornerback Jourdan Lewis, cornerback Reggie Robinson, linebacker Luke Gifford, offensive guard Connor McGovern, and tight end Sean McKeon are inactive versus the Rams.
Brandon Carr is officially active after being called up from the practice squad earlier in the weekend. The veteran defensive back will look to provide the Cowboys with veteran experience and leadership as they attempt to slow down L.A.'s offensive attack.
As for Steele, he will need to show the coaching staff that he can be relied upon during Collins' three-game absence. Look for the Rams to make life hard on the rookie lineman while sending pressure Prescott's way.
Steele's performance will likely go a long way in whether or not the Dallas Cowboys are able to pull out a week one win on Sunday Night Football.
