It was not that long ago when Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles fans were arguing about Dak Prescott and Carson Wentz. Fast forward, and there is no debate about which signal caller is better.

Prescott cashed in on a massive extension and performed like an elite quarterback prior to injuries and other factors down the stretch of last season. Wentz, on the other hand, is set to be joining his third different franchise in as many years.

Reports surfaced on Wednesday afternoon that the Washington Commanders have made a move for Wentz. The Indianapolis Colts are sending Wentz back into the division that he began his career in.

The Commanders are taking on Wentz's full salary in the move. Additionally, Washington is parting ways with multiple draft picks. That shows how desperate the organization was for adequate quarterback play.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR THE COWBOYS

This move will have an impact on the Dallas Cowboys. How much? That is something that remains to be seen.

Anytime that a division rival makes a move for a quarterback, it is noteworthy. Wentz is not the caliber of quarterback that he showed flashes of being early in his career. Yet, the former Colts passer is an upgrade over who Washington had at the position at last season.

By adding Wentz to the equation, this likely means the Commanders will not select a quarterback with its first-round selection. Instead, Washington could use its 11th overall pick to perhaps give Wentz another weapon in the offense.

Regardless of what route that the Commanders ultimately opt to take in April, it is evident that Washington made this move with plans of having Wentz being its starter behind center during the 2022 season.

Washington has no shortage of talent on its defense, headlined by the likes of Chase Young and Montez Sweat. With Terry McLaurin on the outside, adequate QB play could make this team a decent threat to the Cowboys.

However, there are real questions concerning Wentz's ability to stay healthy and play well for a full season. The Commanders are banking that they can get the most out of him, which is a bold move.

The Dallas Cowboys, despite some questionable offseason moves, should enter next season as the favorite to win the division. However, the Commanders are one of the three other teams in the NFC East looking to make an improvement and challenge Dallas.
