Dallas, TX – The Dallas Mavericks got off to a hot start in January but have started February on a two-game losing streak.

In large part, their defense has faltered, which resulted in their losses.

Another possible reason for their disappointing losses, especially against mediocre teams, is the absence of Kristaps Porzingis.

Here are a few ways Porzingis has become a forgotten man to the most needed player for the Mavericks.

Length and big frame in the paint

Porzingis early in his career was never known for his defense but more for his athletic and frail frame.

Since the start of 2022, he has worked extensively at this part of his game and helped the Mavericks win some tough battles.

His presence in the paint has been welcoming as Dallas has not received production from other big men on their squad.

Jason Kidd spoke about how much his ability to protect the room has been an asset to the team's performance.

The Mavs surely could use his help as the Orlando Magic and Oklahoma City Thunder took advantage of Kristaps not being in the paint and pulled off upsets.

Even though he is still not ready to return from his knee (bone bruise) injury, Jason Kidd is looking to find other ways to keep the team aggressive on defense.

2nd Scoring option on offense

Everyone in their right mind know Luka Doncic on any given night will be the leading scoring for the Mavericks.

Luka Doncic, on any given night, will be the leading scorer for the Mavs.

Aside from Jalen Brunson, Porzingis has been Dallas's most important player as he understands the offense under Jason Kidd took.

Before, he was the forgotten man that was never available to play in a handful of games.

These past few games have shown fans and the media that Porzingis means much more to this team than they envisioned.

He would have been named an all-star had he'd not missed many games this season.

In large part due to his thin-like frame, as the injuries may continue to follow throughout his career.

What's Next?

Hopefully, the Mavericks can get things back in order until he comes back into the lineup.

Dallas takes on the Philadelphia 76ers (3rd in Eastern Conference), who present a challenge with Joel Embiid.

Embiid is averaging 29.1 PPG, as he has been unstoppable in the paint and will be a handful to defend.

As the season comes closer to shape out the playoffs, Porzingis's play can help take Dallas to greater heights.
