Luka Doncic keeps rewriting the history books.
And though the Dallas Mavericks have gotten off to a slow start (16-16), Doncic hasn't. He's averaging 32 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 8.7 assists in 29 games played thus far. And in the Mavericks' latest win over the Minnesota Timberwolves, Doncic totaled 25 points, 10 assists, and nine rebounds. Out of that 104-99 victory, Doncic became the out-right defacto leading scorer of the 2020s thus far.
Doncic is leading the way with 5,504 points in the 2020s. The leading scorer of the 2010s was James Harden with 19,578 points, and the 2000s was Kobe Bryant with 21,671 points.
Though Doncic is an all-around threat on the floor, this season has been his most impressive as a scorer to date.
He's averaging the most points (32.2) and shooting the best field goal percentage of his career (49%).
The blemish on Doncic this season is that Dallas isn't winning consistently. The Mavericks have struggled to find consistent footing in the Western Conference. Head coach Jason Kidd has had difficulty getting Christian Wood incorporated within the group he coached to the Conference finals last season. Losing Jalen Brunson placed Dallas in an offensive hole without an additional ball handler.
But amidst the struggle, Doncic has shined. And he just so happens to be rewriting the record books at an incredible rate.
