Dallas, TX – When the Mavs have a poor shooting night, everything seems to go wrong in some fashion way, or form.

The Mavs were smacked in the mouth after riding on a 5-game winning streak and shooting lights out.

The New York Knicks seemed to have the Mavs number this season as they dominated the Mavs by 20+ points in both meetings.

The loss tonight was yet another example to not play to the level of competition because you are the better team.

The Knicks have struggled this season but look like a playoff team when they match up against Dallas.

Key Factors in Loss

In the first half, the Mavs were shooting poorly (27 percent) from the floor and were 0-18 from the three.

Throughout the game, the energy was poor on both ends of the floor, and the Knicks took advantage.

Mavs lost the rebound battle (55-37) and points in the paint (46-36) which was one of the key reasons for the blowout loss.

The open looks were there, but they were not going through for the team most of the night.

Luka Doncic accounted for 31 of the 77 total points as he was the only player in a rhythm tonight.

Spencer Dinwiddie was the only other player in double-figures with 13 points off the bench.

This game looked similar to games at the beginning of the season where no one other than Luka could knock down shots.

What to make of the loss

All in all, maybe this game was needed for them to be reminded that they are not above getting beat.

When your on a win streak, you feel you can beat anyone you play.

Sometimes that pride can be deadly if you are not careful and overlook teams who are not better than you.

The Knicks exploited the Mavs weakness as they went with their bigger lineup against their small.

In turn Julius Randle, RJ Barrett, and Alex Burks combined for 59 of the 107 points for NY.

Hopefully this was just an off night and not a sign for bad things to come.

Dallas can get back on track when they take on the Houston Rockets on Friday night in Houston, TX.

Jason Kidd will have some things to clean up in practice to get ready as the playoff pictures gets tighter by the week.
