The Dallas Cowboys move the needle like no other team does in the NFL, and quarterback Dak Prescott causes the most discussion.
Prescott is a talented player and one of the best at his position, but the opinion on him is pretty much split down the middle when you ask football fans about it, he's either extremely loved or viciously hated.
When ESPN did their top 10 quarterback rankings which were voted on by respected league coaches, execs, and scouts, Prescott got some props as he landed at the No.9 spot on the list.
9. Dak Prescott
Highest ranking: 7 | Lowest ranking: Unranked
The turnovers haven't hampered Prescott's scoring prowess. His 82.5 QBR from the red zone ranks third among qualified quarterbacks. He threw a touchdown on 5.8% of his passing attempts last season, the fourth-highest rate in the NFL. And he has serious chemistry with CeeDee Lamb, posting a 93 QBR when targeting Lamb, compared to 57 when targeting other Cowboys.
Without coordinator Kellen Moore for the first time since 2018, Prescott will look to find synergy with coach and playcaller Mike McCarthy, who plans to utilize the running game more.
"He's been a top-10 quarterback for a few years now," an AFC executive said. "Part of his game that was so great was the ability to run the ball and throw more play-action off that. They didn't have that as much with weapons on [the] outside. But I'm not down on him. He's accurate, he can extend and make plays. He's elite in his decision-making." –Jeremy Fowler, ESPN
The 2022 campaign allowed people to develop a false sense of who Prescott is as a quarterback. Yes, he made some bad decisions with the football and that needs to be corrected, but Prescott had an interception percentage of less than 2.0 before last season, and even with the 3.8 he had last year, his interception percentage is still tied for the ninth-lowest all-time, proving last season was just admiration.
Since entering the NFL, Prescott has 61 wins as a starter which is tied for the fifth-most in the league. So not only has he not been a turnover-prone quarterback but the Cowboys win quite their fair share of games with him under center.
It's crazy how Prescott has gotten a reputation for being an average quarterback when the facts show he's one of the best in the business.
