Daryl Johnston played for the Dallas Cowboys for 11 seasons (1989-1999) and won three Super Bowls as the lead blocker for all-time leading rusher and Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith.
Johnston has continued to be around the game of football since he retired, and he just recently got a promotion at his endeavor. He was named the new President of the USFL after two years as their Executive Vice President of Football Operations.
Despite his immense responsibility in the USFL, Johnston still manages to work for Fox which speaks to his dedication. His long-time broadcast partner on Fox, Kenny Albert, spoke about his relentless grind over the years.
“He is a really smart guy, always been well-organized,” said Albert. “It’s no surprise that success has followed Daryl around.”
Johnston spent 2018 and 2019 as the general manager of the San Antonio Commanders of the AAF (Alliance of American Football), and he was the director of player personnel for the Dallas Renegades (now the Arlington Renegades) in 2020 before taking the USFL gig.
Johnston could have easily faded off into the sunset after his playing career, but football still had a hold on him.
“I wanted to still be involved in it,” Johnston said. “I love the game of football. It’s given me more than I could’ve ever imagined, and I always feel like I need to be an ambassador for the game.”
Johnston is certainly a great face for the game of football to have and there's no doubt he'll keep succeeding.
