It seems like every high-profile free agent with a 'name' is linked to the Dallas Cowboys. From Bobby Wagner to Za'Darius Smith, it's become more and more of a tease as Dallas seems to be nothing more than a name drop.

Are we in for another disappointment? It was first reported on The Pat McAfee Show that former Indianapolis Colts WR and free agent, T.Y. Hilton, has allegedly been in talks with the Cowboys.

The Dallas Cowboys' cap space currently sits at around $27 million, second in the league. Given his estimated value of $6.2 million, it's uncertain if this is outside the Cowboys' price range. Essentially, this move would be in the same area as signing Randall Cobb before the 2019 season.

However, fans might want to (continue to) hold onto their excitement. Stephen Jones warned fans earlier of their approach to free agency.

“In general, from a money standpoint, if I’m looking into a crystal ball right now, I see most of our money that would go in free agency going toward our current players. Doesn’t mean that won’t change. We might come across a value on a player that we say, ‘Hey, it’s just one we got to take.’ I don’t want to rule it out. But, in general, we go to our players and then we have to be efficient in the draft in terms of improving the team.”

If this falls into the Cowboys range, it would be a smart depth investment. Michael Gallup is coming off a torn ACL and James Washington is likely playing as Dallas' WR4 role. Depth is needed. A player of Hilton's pedigree would be a big relief.

During his tenure in Indy, he played a six season stretch of getting 1,000 receiving yards or more five times. Including four straight Pro Bowl appearances. He ranks third all-time in receiving yards (9,691), receptions (631) and fourth in receiving touchdowns (53) in team history.

Hilton was re-signed to a one-year deal last off-season and missed seven games due to injury. Finishing the season with only 23 receptions for 331 yards and three touchdowns.

While T.Y. Hilton isn't the same player he once was, he can still prove reliable depth to a team in need of receiving help. Just like James Washington, signing Hilton wouldn't stop the Dallas Cowboys from taking another one in the upcoming NFL Draft, but he adds speed, experience, and most importantly: depth to the position.
