The Dallas Mavericks have figured out the blueprint to defeat the San Antonio Spurs as they are 3-0 against them this season.
Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis were unstoppable tonight as the two combined for 64 points.
The Spurs had no answer for the Mavericks tonight and they both took advantage of the opportunities.
After this performance, is it safe to say that Dallas now has a dynamic duo for the next few years?
Porzingis finally healthy?
Since Porzingis has returned to the lineup he has looked like the player from his New York Knicks days.
He has been very effective in shooting the ball from the perimeter and around the rim.
Rebounding is not his strong suit but he has been better and is more physical at the point of attack.
The Mavericks have been waiting two years for Kristaps to be the superstar Luka can thrive with on the court.
Tonight was a glimpse of what could be the making of the next duo for the Mavericks since Dirk and Nash.
As long as Porzingis can remain healthy for most of the season and continue this type of play, the Mavericks can play better against top teams.
Luka being more of a leader
So far through 11 games, Luka has shown more leadership skills and allowed other players to have their scoring opportunities.
He still has his 20 and 30-point performances, but he is welcoming his teammates to contribute and make plays.
People forget he is only 22 years of age so he is still maturing and only will get better as his potential is through the roof.
Letting guys like Porzingis take over in certain parts of the game will allow him to be fresh in crunch time.
In previous years, Luka would be out of gas and would not be effective late in games.
He can also trust secondary players such as Jalen Brunson (17 points off the bench) and Dorian Finney-Smith (15 points) when they are on the floor.
Jason Kidd needs to continue to create favorable matchups so the players can be more effective and win games.
What's Next?
The Mavericks sit at 8-4 and will have a two-day break before taking on the Denver Nuggets on November 15th.
The Nuggets defeated the Mavericks earlier this season 106-75 in blowout fashion, but the Mavs will be on their home court this time.
They currently are 5-1 at home and will look to keep that streak alive to take the #3 spot in the Western Conference.
