Dallas Cowboys WR Michael Gallup is going to miss the first game of the season. He said so himself. Likely even the second game as well. So, when can we expect the WR2 to return to action?
Gallup is rehabbing from a torn ACL, suffered against the Arizona Cardinals in December of 2021. While it typically takes someone a full calendar year to fully recover from the injury.
Despite that, his rehab continues to progress very well. He is able to run around more in practices and has even been spotted running routes after practices with QB Dak Prescott.
Owner Jerry Jones believes Gallup is rehabbing well, saying "if this were the Super Bowl, Gallup would be lining up and playing". But how realistic is this?
Dallas Morning News reporter Michael Gehlken agrees the rehab is going better than expected. However, there's still an undetermined amount of when he can return to the Dallas Cowboys lineup.
Gehlken spoke with our own A to Z Sports Dallas morning show host Will "Skywalker" Steele on a number of present topics. Including the potential return of Gallup.
In it Gehlken talked about how impressed the play-maker has been in the rehab process.
"They were waiting in the pre-op phase to do surgery because it would make the road, post-op, a whole lot easier. A whole lot smoother. And that's what it's been since February. He improved. Michael Gallup's work with Director of Rehabilitation, Britt Brown, has gone incredibly well. The Cowboys are excited about his continued progress."
If this is any indication, it's good news for Cowboys fans. The team has overloaded the position and still has questions as to who else will stand up next to WR1 CeeDee Lamb.
Gallup signed his five-year $62.5 million extension this past off-season. One of the few Dallas Cowboys free agents to return. He continues an established connection and friendship with the franchise QB and will easily still be WR2 when he returns.
When exactly that will be, is to be determined.
